The Alchemical Nursery Project is a non profit committed to spreading the word about the urban ecovillage movement globally. We hope to provide the resources, dialogue space, and networks needed for those who would like to establish their own urban ecovillage wherever they live! Our local grassroots projects is, as you may have guessed, the development of an urban ecovillage in Syracuse, NY. We would love for you to join our conversation!

Seriously though, want to know more about what we're doing locally?

The Alchemical Nursery Project is here in Syracuse, New York, to foster the development of an urban ecovillage, and an urban "embassy" or community center, which will be the activist arm of our ecovillage project. The urban embassy will organize and operate our urban CSA, oversee the urban land reclamation and brownfield remediation project, as well as focus on educational outreach and community building activities, workshops and seminars. The urban ecovillage will serve as a demonstration site for urban sustainable living, as well as provide opportunities for research/collaboration with local universities, and serve as a venue for innovation in urban permaculture design and technique. There is great potential for our ecovillage to be one of the first LEED certified neighborhoods - the LEED for Neighborhood Development certification program will be "ready for the marketplace" in 2009. We are planning on locating on the West Side of Syracuse. That's the general idea, in a nutshell. The expanded versions of our visions can be found in our discussions on this site, as well as in the urban embassy and urban ecovillage proposals, which are both in the files and media section, in the folder titled "Vision Documents and Proposals."
